Getting started in property
Back in 1975, I had just turned twenty, and I was as green in the world of home ownership and property investing as any young and curious explorer stepping into unfamiliar territory. The details of the industry often felt elusive, but I had the foresight to seek guidance from someone more experienced—someone who could help light the way when things got dark.
For two years we worked together, sharing knowledge and learning from each other. When the partnership had run its course, we parted ways. But the “damage” was done: I had caught the property bug. Five years later, that passion showed up in the form of thousands of pounds in cashed-out, accrued value. And fortunately for me, that was only the beginning of a pattern of success and applied skill.
Mobile phone pioneer
As my property portfolio grew, I launched a business of my own, one I spent the next 19 years building and shaping. I soon found my footing in the mobile cellular phone industry, and before long British Telecom NI Plc approached me about acquiring the company. A couple of years later, yet another venture had come to a successful conclusion.
I stayed on as a consultant for a few months, but I felt myself being pulled back toward the property market. I wanted to uncover the secrets estate agents guarded so closely.
Mentored by the best
It wasn’t easy. To find the most up-to-date strategies, I travelled to the United States and eventually landed in Phoenix, Arizona, at an event run by Dolf de Roos, a world-renowned property author.
That’s where I found it: the path into the inner circle. I spent the next two years under Dolf’s mentorship. The following three years became some of the most exciting and productive of my career. Managing over 10,000 enquiries through my website, I bought, held, and sold hundreds of properties. At my peak, I completed 17 purchases in a single month and successfully sold three of them. The full potential of my knowledge had come to fruition.
Commercial deals topped it all off when I accumulated £4.6 million after purchasing a site for 32 planned commercial units, developing them, and selling them.

I now have a very successful team of what I now refer to as, “Deal Makers”, with various backgrounds in Northern Ireland. While it took years to construct this team, I now have the ability to offer full lettings management with perfected property strategies.
Wealth is abundant in property, and one of the greatest lessons I learned early on was the power of leverage, something unmatched in any other investment type. While shares, savings, and traditional businesses demand 100% of your own capital, property allows you to control an asset with as little as 25%, borrowing the remaining 75%. This simple principle is why property continues to outperform old, fragile wealth-building methods like pensions, which today struggle to keep up with rising costs and the increasing financial pressures facing future generations.
With pension shortfalls growing and the cost of living climbing steadily, relying on outdated retirement strategies has become a dangerous gamble. The wealthy avoid this trap by building and controlling appreciating assets. In a world where everything is getting more expensive, one truth remains: control is king.
